Nestled in the heart of the Albanian Alps, Valbona National Park is a destination where nature unfolds its beauty in the most mesmerizing way. Our weekend adventure took us deep into this untouched paradise, promising breathtaking landscapes, warm hospitality, and an unforgettable hiking experience.

How to Get to Valbona National Park
There are three main routes to reach Valbonë:
- From Kosovo: This is the shortest and most well-paved route, making for a more comfortable journey.
- Via Komani Lake: A fantastic option that includes a ferry ride across Komani Lake, arriving in Fierzë. It is recommended to book tickets in advance for this trip. For more details on schedules and prices, visit: Komani Lake Ferry. Keep in mind that the road to Komani is not fully paved, and some sections have potholes.
- From Kukes via Has and Bajram Curri: This route has more twists and turns and can be more challenging to drive, but it offers a different and scenic experience for adventurous travelers.
A warm welcome in Valbona National Park
Upon arriving in Valbona National Park, we were greeted with the incredible hospitality of our hosts at @neokullahotel. Their warmth and generosity made us feel instantly at home. After a restful night, we started our day with a hearty breakfast filled with delicious, organic, locally sourced foods that gave us the perfect energy boost for the adventure ahead.

Hiking to Kukaj and Qafa e Rosit
Our main activity for the day was hiking toward the remote village of Kukaj and then attempting to reach Qafa e Rosit. As we ascended, the panoramic views of the Valbona Valley gradually unfolded before us, a mesmerizing scene of snow-covered landscapes stretching as far as the eye could see. The crisp mountain air and the peaceful surroundings made every step of the journey a true pleasure.
After about an hour of trekking, we arrived in Kukaj, a secluded village with only a few remaining houses and residents. This tiny settlement, hidden within the grandeur of the Alps, felt like a step back in time. The silence and stillness of the village added a unique charm to our experience.

Facing Challenges on the Trail
With our sights set on Qafa e Rosit, we pressed on, eager to reach higher ground. However, as we climbed further, the terrain became increasingly challenging. The thickening snow and icy conditions made progress difficult, especially without the proper gear for such winter trekking. Despite our determination, we had to make the tough decision to turn back before reaching the peak. We promised ourselves that we would return better prepared to conquer the summit another time.

Wrapping Up an Incredible Journey
After making it back to Valbona National Park, we began our return journey towards Tirana. To end our weekend on a perfect note, we made a final stop in Prizren, Kosovo, where we enjoyed a delicious dinner before heading home.
