Tirana Marathon 2025 – Road Closures, Schedule & Traffic Changes

Tirana, October 16, 2025 — The Tirana Marathon 2025 will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, starting from Skanderbeg Square at 09:00 AM. Organized by the Municipality of Tirana in collaboration with the Athletics Federation, this event will mobilize the entire city and bring special traffic and safety measures.

Schedule and Key Times

  • October 19, 2025 (Sunday)
    The race starts at 09:00 AM from Skanderbeg Square and is expected to last until Sunday afternoon.
    Road closures will begin at 08:00 AM and are expected to remain in place until around 04:00 PM.
  • October 18, 2025 (Saturday) – Fun Run Marathon
    A recreational activity (Fun Run) will be held from 09:00 to 11:00 AM, and the streets from “Mother Teresa” Square to “Martyrs of the Nation” Boulevard will be closed.

Closed Roads and Diversions

To ensure the safety and smooth running of the race, the main central roads of Tirana will be closed to traffic during the event. The affected routes include:

  • “Mother Teresa” Square – “Martyrs of the Nation” Boulevard
  • “Gjergj Filipi”, “Pope John Paul II”, “Ismail Qemali” Streets
  • “Bajram Curri” Boulevard (including the intersection with “Elbasani Street”)
  • “George W. Bush”, “Abdi Toptani”, “Zogu I”, “New Boulevard”, “Ded Gjo Luli”, “Durres Street”, “Kavaja Street”, “Myslym Shyri”, “Zhan D’Ark”, “Bajram Curri” segment from the Court Bridge to “Taiwan” Bridge, “Ibrahim Rugova”, “Leke Dukagjini”, etc.

Additionally, vehicles parked in closed areas may be removed by tow truck.

Public Transport Changes

Due to road closures, urban bus lines will undergo temporary deviations or suspensions. The main changes include:

  • Lines 1A and 1B will be suspended during the race.
  • Line 2 (TEG – Sauk) will terminate at “Willson” Square.
  • Line 3 (Kashar – Yzberisht) will deviate at the “21 Dhjetori” roundabout and then continue to “Karl Topia” Square.
  • Line 4 (Center – City Park) will also deviate through “Karl Topia” Square.
  • Lines 5A/5B (from Ish-Komuna Autotr./“Institute” – Center) will be redirected via Elbasan Bridge and “Karl Topia” Square.
  • Line 6 (Lapraka) will use “Zogu I” Boulevard.
  • Line 8 (Former Station – TEG) will deviate via “Elbasani” Street near the “Student City” roundabout.
  • Line 9 (Student City – Jordan Misja) will be temporarily suspended.
  • Line 10A (New Maternity – Aviation Field) will deviate via Elbasan Bridge.
  • Lines 12A/12B will pass through “21 Dhjetori” (V. Shanto Bridge), with some sections potentially suspended.
  • Line 13 (New Tirana) will deviate through “Willson” Square and then “Karl Topia.”
  • Line 15 (Kombinat – Kinostudio) will reroute via “21 Dhjetori” intersection – “Kavaja Street” and then the Small Ring Road.
  • Line 16 (Green Line) will be temporarily suspended.

Citizens are advised to check bus stops or the Urban Transport Center’s official pages for exact routes and the latest updates. Taxis must follow the same restrictions and detours, avoiding entry into the marathon perimeter.

Tips for Citizens

  1. Avoid using private cars on October 19 whenever possible — use public transport or walk.
  2. Remove vehicles from the mentioned streets before October 19 — cars left in restricted areas will be towed.
  3. Plan alternative routes — use the Outer Ring or peripheral roads when necessary.
  4. Follow traffic signals and diversions — do not attempt to enter the marathon area by car.
  5. Be patient and cooperative — there will be additional traffic lights and police officers guiding movement.
