Exploring the best hiking trails in Shengjergj, Tirana, we joined the group @alpineguidealbania on a wonderful adventure to Mjeli Peak. This trip also marked the 8th anniversary of their community, making the experience even more special and festive.
Departure
Our journey began from the village of Shengjergj, a hidden gem of the Tirana Highlands, just an hour away from the capital. After traveling about 22 km from Tirana, we found ourselves in a lush and tranquil environment where nature was in perfect harmony.
Climb and Stopovers: Hiking Trails in Shengjergj
The climb to Mjeli Peak was considered easy and was completed in approximately 4 hours in total, including breaks. With an elevation gain of 700 meters and a total round-trip distance of 12 km, this challenge was manageable for anyone who is physically active during the week or enjoys weekend hikes.
Along the way, we stopped at Lepuri Lake, a glacial lake known for its crystal-clear waters and deep green color. Surrounded by tall pine trees and lush mountains, this lake offers a breathtaking panorama. Some participants found the courage to swim in its cold waters, despite the fact that it was partially frozen.
Reaching the summit of Mjeli Peak rewarded us with spectacular views over the mountains of Tirana and Dajti. The endless horizon, greenery, and fresh air created an indescribable sense of freedom and relaxation.
